Limp back in time to challenge Fate,
To gain your freedom, end your pain,
To save you from that curséd Gate.
Remember when we challenged Fate,
In hopes that life would somehow win?
Instead, streaks crimson marred the Gate
As holy penance for our sin.
To think that life could somehow win
Against the throes of Hades' lair!
The hallowed payment for my sin,
Your blood, was more than I could bear.
Upon the step of Hades' lair
Where horrid truth consumes the light,
Your cries were more than I could bear;
My screams joined yours to slice the night.
The Gate creaked open to claim your light,
While countless faces mocked and jeered.
My cries of horror pierced the night,
Though strangled by my bitter tears.
A thousand eyes, unblinking, leered,
While shadows seemed to dance in glee.
My eyes bled out with bitter tears,
And how I screamed to let you free!
The shadows danced in revelry
One soul was taken; two were lost.

Even though the words and pictures form inside my head, and in that realm seem to fit together beautifully, somewhere along the way they simply fritz out, fizz out, or else are lost by some kind of infernal short circuit looping the stream back around so that even though I write-and-write-and-WRITE, still along the way I find my thought is still back in the minds playground and nowhere yet nearer the paper, and I try one-more-TIME but NO a miniature yet catastrophic explosion occurs right along my internal hard drive memorys files and the whole thing goes up in a bloody violent mess of blue and orange sparks that light my brain on fire with adjectives and homonyms whistling out like rockets and lines from something I penned years before shooting upwards like fourth of July fireworks ending in a mess of color burned out light with no real substance at all and then, at long last, when I have finally given up and thrown down my pencil in
