So, why the heck do people care when a character has an "OOC" moment?
It's just something I find annoying, especially when people are reading fanfiction, and then scream and whine about how a character is acting out of character in such-and-such scene. First of all, even if a character was acting out of character in every single line of every single scene, you have a right to speak but not a right to antagonize authors, savvy?
And secondly, there is a really simple concept out there called fallible humanity.
Yes, characters are human. Gasp. It's true.
Check in any book or movie or manga or anything. You will find moments when characters fail, lose their resolve, or do something strangely against their own personality. Characters are capable of change. They are capable of doubt. They are capable of emo moments. They are capable of courage. Joy. Love. Hate. Strength. Double-minded-ness. OOC moments. Characters are capable of everything that we are. And how many times have
you lost your cool, dropped your brain, or done something really not like yourself? Please, stop putting original characters and cannon characters and any other kind of character there is into little boxes. They have - or should have - just as much depth to them as you and me.
In short, in my humble opinion, OOC moments - for both original characters and cannons alike - show the character's human nature. Their fallibility. And, as is often the case in my writing, when someone is acting out of character, it's most often because
I intend them to. And when it is accidental, for me or any other writer out there, be gracious and accept that the OOC moment is moving the plot forward, which in any case should be the author's primary goal.
Thanks for listening. Just had to get that out there.
Hugs to ya'll! ^^

Devious Comments
I once had a reader of PLF who said that she was rewriting some of the chappies 'cause she thought things were out of character. [At least she told me of this] She asked if I was okay with it and would take some suggestions. I said I would like to see what she thought [not necessarily meaning that I would accept every idea she presented since it is my fanfic] and read her stuff and that I would only read it if she stopped rewriting everything [which was pretty disheartening from the start... hard to be nice in a situation like this!]. I never got a reply from her about suggestions/rewritings.
But, AYE! Our fanfic ideas, our writings! Don't yell at us for that!
And JKR would totally agree with ye. Characters are not perfect. They have flaws.

It's the badly-written fics with barely a stroyline that piss me off. >.<

Woah. That's just... wrong.
At least she stopped bothering you, though... Sorry that happened, mate!
Good to know, good to know.
To our own flaws! Drink up, me hearties, for we all are human yet!

Well... the fact that I've stopped being bothered worries me... did she keep writing? Is she rewriting the new chappies that I put up now?
OMG Rowling is amazing. I can't start to describe how AMAZING.
